The Shrine of the Báb is embedded like a jewel in a ring of eighteen terraces with nine above and nine below it. In 2001, after eleven years of work, the terraces were finally completed. They extend nearly a kilometre up the side of Mount Carmel and reach a height of 225 metres.

The gardens in Haifa are a tribute to the Shrine of the Báb. The splashing water of the fountains, the singing of the birds and the beautiful array of flowers and plants help to create an all-encompassing tranquillity and spiritual atmosphere.
